Summertime Beer Grab Bag
For this week's beer tasting we decided to grab a little bit of everything for some summertime inspiration. Our team tried out a Session IPA, Imperial Brown Ale, and Milk Stout, and after some boos and yays on a warm Thursday afternoon of sipping, here is what we had to say about the line-up…
Hop Slice Session IPA from Deschutes Brewery
Aroma – Floral, citrusy hops with sweet malt notes and a clean yeast smell.
Appearance – This IPA poured a clear gold, copper color with a head that diminished quickly, leaving some light lacing behind.
Flavor – As with the aroma, the floral hops jump out first, while the sweet malts taste grainy, toasty even, and the citrus flavor lingers.
Mouthfeel – Crisp and light bodied with good carbonation.
Overall Tasting Notes– The floral nose and light citrus notes made the team like this pick quite a bit, though this is a mellow IPA that hardcore IPA fans may find too mild.
Wilco, Tango, Foxtrot from Lagunitas Brewing Company
Aroma – Sweet, caramel malts catch you first with earthy, almost piney hops and a clean, light citrus smell in there as well.
Appearance – Pours a rich, caramel color, clear, with diminishing head and some lacing.
Flavor – Our team had so many adjectives for the malt flavor – toasty, roasty, nutty, caramely, bready. Point being – it was delicious. The malt flavor is followed by a citrusy, piney hop flavor and a welcomed bitter finish.
Mouthfeel – Medium-bodied (somehow both rich and dry at the same time) with moderate carbonation.
Overall Tasting Notes– Well-balanced with a bitter finish. Great mouthfeel! We really enjoyed the flavor of this one.
The Husstler from Huss Brewing Company
Aroma – Sweet lactose, chocolatey malts and earthy, roasty hops.
Appearance – This milk stout poured like root beer with a cream diminishing head.
Flavor – What we tasted more than anything was the prominent, sweet, nutty, chocolatey malt flavor.
Mouthfeel – Light bodied with subtle sweetness.
Overall Tasting Notes – The Husstler is for those who a crave a sweet, milk stout - especially one with nice chocolate notes.
