Your Brew Breakdown

Everything you need to craft your perfect brew

STORY

Overview: Velvet Reconciliation Cider Stout is a smooth stout-cider hybrid inspired by a Black Velvet, the classic combination of stout and cider. St. Patrick’s Irish Stout Brewing Extract, Honey Malt, oat flakes, lactose, Fuggle hops, S-04 yeast, and apple cider come together for a balanced beer with stout malt flavor, apple character, creamy body, and a 5.4% finish.

PROFILE

Tasting Notes: Expect a smooth, balanced beer with dark malt flavor, subtle honey-like sweetness, soft oat body, gentle cider character, and a lightly fruity apple finish. It drinks like a cross between a stout and a cider, with enough malt depth to keep it grounded.

IMPORTANT BREWING NOTE

Cider Note: This recipe uses 1 gallon of apple cider provided by the brewer. The cider is added directly to the fermenter before the wort is poured in.

Lactose Note: This recipe contains lactose, a milk-derived sugar used to add sweetness, body, and a creamy mouthfeel. In a finished 2-gallon batch, that equals about 0.25 oz, or 7 g, per 16 oz pint.

Hybrid Style Note: This recipe is inspired by a Black Velvet, but it is brewed as one fermented batch instead of mixing finished stout and cider in the glass.

    haven't attempted this recipe yet

I haven't attempted this recipe yet since it seems a bit complicated and I'm a new brewer. I'm starting with a couple of simpler brews first and am impressed with the Mr. Beer staff support so far.

Delicious concoction of grain cider and fuggles!

I bought three kits and we chose to brew this first because it sounds so delicious to have a stout and cider combo. We can hardly wait to taste it. With Mr Beer it’s always good!

    Velvet Reconciliation Cider Stout

This is the third brew I’ve tried thru Mr Beer and I’d say my favorite as of yet. I will definitely order this again. I still have yet to brew the lucky charms stout but I’m sure that will be enjoyable as well

    Let it ride!

They key to this is letting it bottle condition. I bottled it and let it sit for 6months and noticed the apple flavor was way more pronounced then bottles I tried earlier. Definitely gets better with time.
