    Classic Bohemian Lager

    A crowd pleasing Lager with a good bite toasted finish and strong presence. Light enough in body to challenge Spring & Summer seasonals and heavy enough to compete with the Fall ales and Winter stouts. We followed the recipe from Mr. Beer except when it came to the carbonation for which we used Brewers Best Drops 10 per 740ml bottle. Coopers drops are bigger so you have to choose between using 2 or 3 per bottle; from our first batch of American Light Lager we discovered the beer was a bit weak on carbonation with 2 drops but 3 might have been too much pressure on the cap. This beer is a classic and it would be a crime to ruin it by getting the carbonation wrong. Based on a number of recipes brewed we would suggest 8-10 drops of Brewers Best per 740ml bottle based on your preference for light medium or heavy carbonation. If you're searching for your first recipe after making the beer which came with the kit this is an excellent choice. Aging does wonders for the complexity of brew. From our last sampling I would recommend making this in the Springtime and keeping it bottled until Octoberfest time; and by doing so you'll be following the German way of preparing their Octoberfest brews.     Nice beer!

    I did a couple of firsts with this beer. First time using my Fast Fermenter and first time using sugar cubes in the bottles for carbonation. And this is the first bottle! This is a good beer. Color actually comes close to the Mr. Beer pictures. Nice level of carbonation. Nice taste. Little more age in the bottle and I think this beer is just going to get better. Nice taste and a nice finish. I am liking this beer.This is my first batch from the fast fermenter one thing I notice is the beer is much more clear and clean.

    Not What I Expected . . .

    When I think of extra hops I think bitterness but this recipe is not so in fact my wife actually called it tangy and I can't think of a better word. That said I don't think I'll be repeating this recipe because despite the tanginess and light flavor it's not quite as rich as the Oktoberfest we've all come to known and love from mrbeer. Don't get me wrong this is still a good recipe I actually prefer it over several of the 6 or 7 commercial Oktoberfest recipes I've tried in the last month but not one of them was as good as every batch of Oktoberfest I've brewed from cans of HME and boiled water over the last two years. I'm going to keep trying but I'll leave this one for another brewer to take on.

    Excellent taste!

    I really enjoyed making this batch of beer and will be making more with time. Fermented for 3 weeks carbonated for another 3 and conditioned for a week. Excellent presentation taste and frothiness.
