Your Brew Breakdown

Everything you need to craft your perfect brew

STORY

Overview: Egocentric Jerk is a bold imperial brown ale brewed with Bewitched Amber Ale Brewing Extract, Smooth LME, Columbus hops, and Nottingham yeast. It delivers caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, pine resin hop character, firm bitterness, and a strong 7.25% finish.

PROFILE

Tasting Notes: Expect a strong brown ale with caramel malt, chocolate notes, dark fruit character, piney Columbus hops, and a more bitter finish than a typical brown ale. It is rich, assertive, and built for brewers who want a bigger beer.

IMPORTANT BREWING NOTE

High-Fermentation Activity: This recipe contains a lot of fermentables and may ferment aggressively. Place your fermenter somewhere safe in case foam or liquid escapes during fermentation.

Yeast Note: The dry brewing yeast under the lid of the Brewing Extract is not used for this recipe. Use the included Nottingham yeast instead.

Hop Note: This recipe uses Columbus hops for bold piney, resinous hop character and firm bitterness. One hop sack is boiled for 60 minutes, and the second hop sack is added at flameout.

WHY THIS RECIPE

Why Brew It: This recipe is built for brewers who want a bigger, meaner brown ale with more bitterness, more strength, and more hop character than the style usually allows. Smooth LME builds the malt backbone, while Columbus hops bring the pine resin bite that gives this beer its attitude.

    Awesome Taste

I just sampled my first beer from this batch last night. Man this tasted as good as some of the beers I've tried at professional breweries. Thanks to Mr Beer

    A Bit Harsh

When I sampled this out of the fermenter 3 weeks ago it was delicious but after bottling and carbonation it was very strong dark & harsh.

    No jerk!

This is a really good medium beer. I drink it when I'm looking for more than an ale but less than a porter. It goes well by itself and with a meal.
