This ready-to-pitch dry American Ale yeast produces well balanced beers with low diacetyl and a very clean, crisp end palate.

Temperature Range: 59°-71.6° F

Rated 5 out of 5 by Scotchontherocks2 from Great service, and a funny observation I had received a recipe that was supposed to contain Safale 05 yeast but it had been omitted from the order. A quick phone call to Mr. Beer and my replacement Safale 05 was on the way. Painless. I proceeded to start my brew and the yeast was quite active. Initially about an inch of foam on top of the batch. A couple days later, a tornado passed close by the house, causing a drop in barometric pressure. As it passed by, the foam head expanded to fill the keg. The foam settled back out after it passed. Maybe not the most reliable indicator of an approaching storm but there you have it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tiger from Safale US-05: Safe Choice I have been using Safale US-05 for several years now and have found it to be versatile and unobtrusive, meaning no off-flavors in the finished product. I have experienced zero failures with this yeast and have come to appreciate its wide temperature tolerance. In my higher alcoholic brews I have been using it in a starter made with a light DME a day ahead of time to jump start the fermentation. I highly recommend US-05.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bruce BOS Brewery from Terrific unobtrusive yeast. This ale yeast is a staple in my home brewing. I do not like ester (banana, cloves, bubble gum) flavors and this yeast imparts very little flavor in and of itself. It just does its job and leaves little trace that it was there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FLRHCARR from Fresh Cultures Having fresh yeast is very important. You aren't going to be successful with out it. This came with my recipe kit, & may be something that I look for to be in other kits or recipes. I have used other packets but this one got right to work, with barely any lapse time. By the time I was ready to do the dry hop part of the recipe, my batch smelled like beer, & not the usual yeast smell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sean W from Good Pale Ale, and IPA yeast I've done 3 brews with this yeast, a pale ale, an IPA, and a hazy IPA. I've enjoyed all three of those brews and think this is a solid option.

Have had multiple packets of US-05 in my kitchen freezer for a good while. Two expired in July 2023; the latest expired in December 2023. I figger it's about 0° Fahrenheit in there. Any chance these yeasts are still viable?
