Mr. Beer Teams up with Funky Buddha to Release New Homebrew Recipe

This weekend Mr. Beer kicks off the newest homebrew recipe in our Brewery Spotlight Edition series, Funky Buddha's Hop Stimulator Double IPA! This delicious partial mash brew is only available in limited numbers on www.mrbeer.com, beginning Saturday, April 22nd.

Funky Buddha Brewery

Funky Buddha's rich, bold flavors and fun, food-inspired brews made them an easy favorite for our team here at Mr. Beer. With beers like Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, No Crusts – PB & J Brown Ale, & Blueberry Cobbler Ale in their lineup, Funky Buddha's brews are the daydream of any beer fan with a sweet tooth. But it's not just about sweets. Funky Buddha's Brand Director, John Linn, feels that the brewery's "out of the box, nostalgic flavors" all possess a trademark balance. "For example, our Maple Bacon Coffee Porter may sound very bold, but it is still a balanced beer" says Linn.

Even beers with less whimsical names, like their brewery favorites Floridian Hefeweizen and Hop Gun IPA, have rich fruit and spice notes to their aromas and flavors that allow them to stand out on Funky Buddha's lively beer list. In fact, Floridian Hefeweizen recently landed spot #5 on Paste Magazine's "59 of the Best Wheat Beers/Hefeweizens, Blind-Tasted and Ranked" where it was praised for its "English muffin at breakfast" maltiness and "bubblegum fruitiness."

When we found out that Funky Buddha founder and co-owner, Ryan Sentz, started his brewing career with a Mr. Beer kit – we were honored. Sentz' finessed, foodie phantasm of a brewery emerged out of early experimentation with one of our 2 gallon fermenters?! Awesome.

Hop Stimulator

Hop Stimulator Double IPA was released by Funky Buddha in April of last year. It holds its ground as a hazy, juicy, hop-slammed creation with tangerine, apricot, grapefruit, mango notes, a touch of pineyness, and a caramelly biscuit maltiness. But, as Linn previously mentioned, "Hop Stimulator doesn't just have hop bitterness so strong it'll kick you in the teeth, this beer is still very well balanced."

The Mr. Beer office tasted Hop Stimulator, and after cooing at the gorgeous bright amber color, we agreed that the citrusy aroma and balanced flavors made this an ideal pick for our brewers to craft from their own kitchens.

We're hoping that folks will grab a Little Brown Keg and this Hop Stimulator homebrew recipe to find out for themselves what Funky Buddha (and making beer) is all about. This Brewery Spotlight recipe offers a unique opportunity for non-Florida natives to get a taste of Funky Buddha's beer and purpose. Mr. Beer is confident that folks will get inspired by Funky Buddha's creative, culinary approach to brewing after trying out Hop Stimulator.
